How I Work

Counselling offers a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Counselling can help you feel heard, understood, and supported as you navigate challenging or traumatic life events or move towards your personal goals. It can be useful at different times in your life for maintaining or improving your mental health, to work towards personal growth or to explore and heal from trauma. As an integrative counsellor, I draw up therapeutical modalities such as person-centred and psychodynamic theories.

 Person-Centred Therapy

This therapeutic approach comes under the umbrella of Humanistic Therapy and is also known as Client-Centred therapy. Person-centred counselling is led by you with my support, listening to your story and understanding your experiences. It's a collaborative, non-judgmental space to explore thoughts and feelings to cultivate your self-awareness, move you towards self-growth, and empower you.

I work with you to explore and understand your self-perception. An underlying assumption is that everyone has an internal drive to find fulfilment of potential, so the person is seen as the “expert” on their life and how they live it.

I will be interested to hear about how you see and experience life, support you by listening, helping you identify your own ability for self-healing and personal growth.

The fundamental thought behind the therapy is that people have an innate capacity and desire for personal growth and change. The overriding goal is to reconnect you with your values and sense of worth to pave the way for moving forward and progressing on the road to recovery.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy empowers you by exploring your past and your inner self to gain a deep understanding of yourself, and of how you relate to others and the world. To cope better and thrive, we need to explore our previous life experiences and relationships, as well as our unconscious mind, and the beliefs that our past left us with that we might need to unlearn and change.

Our therapeutic relationship is key - having an accepting and trusting relationship encourages you to talk freely and openly about your past. It’s all getting to the root of the problem to create long-lasting change. There may be things in your unconscious that you’re not aware of and are painful or keeping you stuck. I will help you look for these patterns and understand them so you can unravel the knots and move on with your life.

The goal of psychodynamic therapy is not to dwell on the past but to explore how prior relationships and attachments may provide insight into your current issues. By understanding these links, you can make better sense of your situation and find new ways of perceiving the world, yourself and your relationships.
